Southwest Alabama Opioid Response Project
About
West Central Alabama Area Health Education Center was awarded three grants between September 2020-August 2025 to implement Rural Communities Opioid Response Programs (RCORP) in fifteen southwest Alabama rural counties. The RCORP was deemed the Southwest Alabama Opioid Response(SAOR) Project, a multi-year initiative supported through the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Federal Office of Rural Health Policy.
Goal
To reduce the morbidity and mortality of substance use disorder (SUD), specifically opioid use disorder (OUD) in rural communities through community education, capacity building, and multi-sector collaborations.

Southwest Alabama Healthcare Collaborative
Established in 2020 under West Central Alabama AHEC, the Southwest Alabama Healthcare Collaborative(SAHC), is a multi-member network of healthcare providers, community leaders/organizations, community health workers, hospitals, clinics, and faith-based organizations to execute a multi-sectoral approach to improve health outcomes by strengthening the healthcare workforce and supporting community-based initiatives that expand access to resources, services, and opportunities for healthier communities.
